The prison Ministry emanates from tirelessness, selflessness by an ex-offender who verily understands the prison experience and the damning societal ills that comes with being a parolee, the Skeem GP Foundation aims at visiting all the 243 Correctional Centers that are found in the Republic of South Africa ‘s nine provinces with 23 of the ones in Gauteng already visited and ministered to. The core vision of this drive is to emancipate the offender by making them realize their potential and how it can be channeled positively when they are still behind bars and for their benefit in the distant future when/if they are released. Correctional Centers have been dubbed as and believed to be demonic dumping sites since time immemorial but through prison ministry, a lot of offenders have been able to think beyond the walls-form and re-define their lives resulting in most of them attending and completing all the necessary courses synonymous to the nature of their crime instead of wasting time indulging in Gangsterism, dealing in contraband and all sorts of lawlessness.
The foundation also focuses on revamping prison libraries by providing the offender with a wide range of books to choose from. By using themselves as examples, the Chairman of the organization Themba Lukhele aka Skeem GP and it’s COO, Mr Solly Nkgalabi Mankga (both ex-offenders),offenders are motivated that the choice of what the prison experience does to oneself (making or breaking their characters) lies in their hands as both of them are living proof that it is possible to make it out in the world despite having a criminal record to one’s name. EX offenders are made aware of the importance of self-introspection as peer pressure is rife behind prison walls and losing oneself in a bid to belong is very much easy but comes at a price. The foundation also delves in cultivating a positive mindset for by so doing, the possibility of them re-offending again once outside becomes slim as self-introspection and taking part in extra-curriculum activities have got a way of leading one into discovering one’s purpose and once a man discovers his purpose which mostly is rooted in their deepest passion, there is no turning back.
As the drive continues to sweep throughout the sovereign state of South Africa, a new dawn shimmers on the horizon where crime will be but a thing of the past through the initiative of Skeem GP patriotism.
